8th May 2010 – Waitara Marine Outfall Pipeline application for renewal by the New Plymouth District Council.

A very old issue still not resolved - dispute the Historic Treaty of Waitangi - Te Atiawa Claim findings from 1982. Which resulted in the building of the sewerage treatment plant at Waiwakaiho, New Plymouth and waste was to be piped to there from Waitara, not dumped out to sea. The Waitara to Waiwakaiho pipeline has not yet been built.
An APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF CONSENT 3397 TO DISCHARGE UP TO 7258 CUBIC METRES/DAY [84 LITRES/SECOND]
OF TREATED MUNICIPAL WASTES GENERATED IN WAITARA TOWNSHIP...VIA A MARINE OUTFALL PIPELINE INTO THE TASMAN
SEA - has been made by the New Plymouth District Council.
