21st - 27th July Maori Language Week

Maori Language Week will be celebrated from 21st - 27 July.
This year’s theme is "Te Reo i te Kainga – "Maori Language in the Home".
Locally a new web site Te Reo o Taranaki has just recently gone online -
to foster the regeneration, use and continued development of Taranaki's unique regional dialect ('Taranaki reo').

Every year since 1975 New Zealand has marked Maori Language Week.
This is a time for all New Zealanders to celebrate te reo Maori (the Maori language)
and to use more Maori phrases in everyday life.
Maori became an official language of New Zealand in 1987, the other being English.
