17 December – 150 people marched to the New Plymouth District Council in protest over the continued use of the Waitara marine outfall for the towns sewage.

The Public gallery swelled to over 300 at the Council meeting. A request was presented to Mayor Harry and the Councillors at NPDC by Joe Rauner on behalf of the Waitara & Northern Taranaki community. “I have a request, that I hope is supported by a Councillor, that work starts immediately with a structured time frame of 18 months construction. If none of you are prepared to move this motion I would like to put this in front of the mayor." Joe then went onto say – “If construction was not started, he said, further hikoi would be planned to coincide with Womad and the Rugby World Cup games held in Taranaki.”
